Animal cruelty is an abomination. We all are familiar with the headlines as well as the commercials on tv trying to curb the problem and while most of us could never fathom harming an innocent animal, it is still a growing concern. As time is almost always a key factor in these cases, hiring a private investigator to look into animal cruelty issues can be the difference between life and death for these innocent creatures.
While the instances of animal cruelty can vary, from a dog left out in harsh winter weather, or animals that are beaten by their owners, there are two types of cases that a private investigator is likely to work. Those include puppy farms and instances of neglected equine.
Puppy Farms– Puppy farms are exactly what their name implies…farms that only produce and sell puppies. The more puppies the farm produces, the more money they make. This results in overcrowding in most cases. For instance, 10-12 puppies living in a cage that is only supposed to house 1 or 2. These puppies barely have room to breath and are often living in their own filth. Their close proximity to each other often leads to bites and scratches which then go on to fester and cause infections. As medical treatment leads to lower profits, these cruel puppy farm owners rarely properly treat sick or injured pups. An investigator can often track a puppy’s sale back to these hellacious locations and notify the proper authorities to ensure justice is served and the puppies live the rest of their lives as happy and healthy.
Neglected equine– Neglected equine (horses) are also a huge area for animal cruelty investigations. Horses are expensive to own, and that, is an understatement. An owner must provide shelter, LOTS of expensive food, acreage for the animal to roam, and the occasional vet bills…which often run into the hundreds and thousands of dollars. Because of this, some owners realize too late that owning a horse is an expense that simply cannot bear. Rather than try to give the animal away or look for resources in other ways to care for the animal they simply…do nothing. They stop feeding and ultimately caring for the horse. These cases are multiplied in instances where someone owns several horses and the results can be devastating if the neglect is not discovered in time.
While these cases can often be heartbreaking, hiring a private investigator who is committed to helping save injured and neglected animals can also often result in a happy ending. In addition, as there is money available through the government for some of these cases, your tip leading to an animal cruelty investigation may not cost you or anyone else a dime.
